Western Carriers won a 15 year concession to develop and operate the general cargo terminal at Syamaprasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata.
The terminal sits at the GCD yard and is already in operation, so the company takes over a running asset rather than building one from scratch. The port authority has estimated civil infrastructure development at about 13.68 crore rupees, subject to revision as work proceeds. For a company that has largely sold freight services, a 15 year terminal concession converts project work into long duration infrastructure revenue.
