SAIL lifted FY27 capital spending to 15,000 crore rupees and targets 35 million tonnes of capacity by 2031.
Spending rises above 20,000 crore rupees in FY28 and then runs at roughly 20,000 to 25,000 crore rupees a year. A large share goes to expanding the IISCO Steel Plant in West Bengal. SAIL also plans to commercialise hydrogen based direct reduced iron. The 2031 capacity target is close to a doubling of the present base, so execution over five years is what the number rests on.
