Ramco Cements stopped paying Tamil Nadu's 160 rupee per tonne mineral bearing land tax on limestone with effect from 22 August.
Parliament's Mines and Minerals Amendment Act 2026 inserted Section 9D, which bars states from levying any tax or cess on mineral rights or mineral bearing land. Tamil Nadu had imposed the levy in February, payable in advance on dispatch. Ramco carries close to half its clinker capacity in the state and was the most exposed listed cement maker to it.
