Kirloskar Ferrous Industries commissioned an additional 35 MW DC solar plant at Jalna in Maharashtra, taking captive solar capacity at that site to 105 MW DC.
The Jalna array was built in stages, reaching 70 MW DC by FY2025, and the company runs a further 12 MW at Solapur. Power is among the largest controllable input costs in pig iron and iron castings once coke and metallurgical inputs are set, so captive generation swaps a variable grid tariff for a fixed depreciation charge and the saving lands directly in operating margin. Against FY26 revenue of 6,888.57 crore rupees and profit after tax of 504.74 crore, a sustained cut in power cost is visible at the margin line rather than lost in rounding. The company has also flagged wind capacity alongside solar, which matters more than it sounds: a blast furnace and foundry run a continuous load, and solar alone cannot cover the night, so the wind leg is what determines how much of the grid bill actually gets displaced.
