GRSE committed 2,670 crore rupees to expand three facilities in West Bengal, with Raichak taking 2,500 crore, the Shalimar timber pond 100 crore and the Khidderpore Damodar unit 70 crore.
The Defence Minister laid the foundation on 23 August. The stated purpose is the ability to execute larger and more complex vessels, which is the constraint that has capped what a yard of this size can bid for. Capacity, not order flow, has been the binding limit on Indian defence shipbuilding.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders received the notification of award to build four platform supply vessels for ONGC at a total value of 1,032.07 crore rupees.
It quoted 258 crore rupees a vessel to beat Cochin Shipyard, Hindustan Shipyard, L&T and Titagarh in the first big order under the shipbuilding package.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders was granted Navratna status by the government through an office memorandum dated 19 June, after revenue rose from 1,754 crore rupees in FY22 to 7,002 crore in FY26 and profit after tax grew from 190 crore to 748 crore.
Navratna status raises the board's investment and capex autonomy, which matters for a warship maker already in brownfield and greenfield expansion against a full order book.
